There seems to be a difference between saving a Dynamo Script in Revit 2021 versus Revit 2022. Somehow after saving it in Revit 2022, the same script cannot be opened in Revit 2021, even though they fall within the D2.X versioning. The script actually doesn’t seem to open making it unusable in Revit 2021, not until a backup is restored or is recreated in Revit 2021. This can be troublesome especially if you don’t have a backup.
Because of this unexpected behavior, I’ve started to save some scripts with the suffix “_R21” to indicate it is only for Revit 2021, and “_R22” to indicate it is for Revit 2022 and above. For example, this started happening to me with scripts that require the Export to Excel node.
In Revit 2021, the node is called Data.ExportExcel.
In Revit 2022, the node is called Data.ExportToExcel.
I suspect because of this difference, Dynamo doesn’t like it, though I’m really not sure, but I will update this post if I find any more information.
In the meantime, I recommend everyone save all their scripts to your Google Drive or One Drive, Drop Box, or any other cloud storage system, for situations like this where you may need to restore a backup. I recommend updating this archive over time as you download more or revise scripts.
If anyone knows the reason why this happens please comment below!
