Autodesk is moving to a new platform called Construction Cloud, which is the latest version of BIM360. You may have noticed this difference yourself if you were added to a project recently and noticed that the look of the entire interface was different, the most obvious difference being the black stripe at the top of the window rather than blue. There’s little information about how new projects are starting on the newer Construction Cloud especially if you aren’t in tune with the latest updates with Autodesk. Even for those who are aware, this difference isn’t brought up in kickoff meetings, leading to the assumption that it’s not widely understood as an issue.

See this link to an old forum post back in Feb 2022 where a user commented on the difference between the two. https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/bim-360-support/bim-360-vs-autodesk-construction-cloud/td-p/10956585
See this link for the official Construction Cloud page. https://construction.autodesk.com/
You may draw your own conclusions.

TLDR

Be aware that the newer platform is Construction Cloud (black) and projects created in this platform will not be visible in BIM360 (blue). Make sure to create bookmarks for all your projects so that they link you to the correct platform.

What’s the issue?

The main issue is that new projects are being created under the new Construction Cloud (black), but this no longer syncs with the old BIM360 platform (blue), which at one point in this year, it did. Let me explain. For privacy, I have masked the names of accounts and projects.

See this image below an account “H” is visible in BIM360 (blue).

The same account is visible in Construction Cloud (black).

However, see the next two images below an account “W” that is visible in the Construction Cloud (black) but not in BIM360 (blue).

We would expect the W account to show up in BIM360 just like the H account. That is no longer the case.

This inconsistency is also coupled with email invite issues lately where users are not receiving the email invites to projects as they have before. Not only do spam filters need to be checked again, users need to be removed and re-added to re-initiate the email invite.

Let’s also ignore for now that the projects in Construction Cloud are organized by project name, rather than account name. Not really the most intuitive in my opinion, and it does not follow making it horrendous to find the project if you have let’s say more than 20 projects. This decision making by whoever is managing the product, is not quite making things better, which in my opinion has been the trend over the last decade. Best of luck to all BIM Managers. If anyone knows how to change this sorting, please comment.

What’s the Solution

Make sure to bookmark all your projects to ensure you are linking to the correct platform. I suggest naming your bookmarks based on your company’s project numbers and the project name.

If you aren’t getting email invites to projects, have your company IT check your spam filters again. Construction Cloud emails are sent from Autodesk Construction Cloud <acc.no-reply@autodesk.com>, where as BIM360 emails are sent from Autodesk BIM 360 <BIM360ent.no-reply@autodesk.com>. It would be best to whitelist all emails from “autodesk.com”.
