One of the hardest elements to manage are Scope Boxes. Revit doesn't have a native "Scope Box" Manager to show you all the Scope Boxes in the model, how they are named, or which workset they are on. This becomes extremely difficult to manage when your project has over 20 scope boxes.
The only way to view a list of Scope Boxes in the model is to click the drop down menu when applying a Scope Box to a particular plan view. Though this function only applies the Scope Box to the view and doesn't indicate the location or shape of the Scope Box.
Without a script, the way to manage Scope Boxes is by creating a dedicated floor plan or 3D view and turn off everything except the Scope Box category. Then click each Scope Box one by one to review the name and Workset that they are on. This ends up being a painful exercise if there are many scope boxes in a model.
Use the Dynamo graph provided to quickly retrieve all Scope Boxes, their Element IDs and the Workset they belong to. This is a great way to review and standardize naming of all Scope Boxes. It is recommended to apply a consistent naming format to communicate how the Scope Boxes should be used, such as for a particular scale of drawing, a particular area of the model, or for a particular type of drawing, such as for presentations.
The recommended workflow is as follows:
- Run the script.
- Save the Excel sheet to a convenient location for review.
- Copy the Element ID in Excel.
- Go back to Revit and use the Select By ID function (under the Manage tab) to find the Scope Box.
